Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is on his third team in four seasons. And while the colors have changed, Wilson's signature No. 3 isn't the only thing that remains the same on his jersey.
Wilson's new digs feature the Steelers' classic logo near his left shoulder while his right shoulder features a patch that has been present on each of Wilson's uniforms over the last four seasons. Wilson is not the only Steeler with that patch on his jersey, but he is one of just four players in the NFL to wear it this season.
What is the unique patch on the right shoulder of Wilson's jerseys? Here is what you need to know about the bronze-colored silhouette of a football player that is now featured on Wilson's black and gold Steelers threads.

In 2017, the NFL began allowing active Walter Payton Man of the Year award winners to wear a patch representing the distinction on their jerseys for the remainder of their careers.
The Walter Payton Man of the Year award honors a player for their "excellence on and off the field." Wilson was named Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2020. He became the first quarterback to win the award since Eli Manning did so in 2016. Dak Prescott won the award in 2022.
The patch is made to look like the award, which features a lineman standing with a cape draped across his shoulders. It is not meant to resemble the likeness of any specific player.
The selection process for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award begins with all 32 teams nominating a player. While there is typically only one winner, all 32 nominees are honored with a decal on their helmets for the year in which they are nominated.

Wilson is one of four active players who have won the award and can wear the patch on his gameday uniform. Joining Wilson as active winners are Pittsburgh teammate Cameron Heyward, Dallas' Dak Prescott and Miami's Calais Campbell.
As such, two Steelers uniforms feature the Man of the Year patch in 2024.
