An abysmal end to the MSU season as the Spartans are upset by Cornell in NCAA Tournament

An absolute choke job has unfolded in Toledo on Thursday night, when the No. 2 overall seeded Michigan State Spartans were upset by the 4-seeded Cornell Big Red, ending the 2024-25 season in an absolute disgusting fashion.

The dagger for Cornell came on a powerplay goal with 10 seconds left in the game when Sullivan Mack's powerplay goal proved to be the game winner in the 4-3 win over the Spartans. The power play came on the heels of an abysmal, lazy tripping penalty by Matt Basgall with 1:40 remaining on the clock.

MSU goal scorers included Gavin O'Connell, Daniel Russell and Karsen Dorwart, while Trey Augustine only made 17 saves on 21 shots.

Despite winning the Big Ten regular season and tournament championships, the overall season for the Spartans came to a very disappointing end, getting upset in the NCAA Tournament and ultimately failing to achieve any of the national goals that the team had set out for themselves.

The next steps for Adam Nightingale's program will be seeing who is going pro, and retooling the roster for an attempt at another run next season.
