Curiosity comes for us all, as noted when, during Friday's on-track sessions, Las Vegas Police Officers took their speed guns out in order to clock how fast the F1 drivers were taking to the temporary Las Vegas Street Circuit.
In a social media post shared on F1's X account, you can watch officers appear giddy after capturing upwards of 200 MPH.
As drivers prepare for the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Saturday evening, beginning at 10 PM local time. There's become some worry about the amount of marijuana smoke around the track as the drivers can clearly smell it even in their race vehicles.
While officers are at the track for crowd control and to keep the peace, it seems that little is being done about the amount of weed smoke that is wafting over to the track itself.
Marijuana's purchase, procession, and consumption have been legal in the state of Nevada since 2017, but its use is barred from the track. While weed smoke was most likely a problem last year as well, with no rule or law changes between the two Grand Prix, it seems to have grown to an uncomfortable level for some drivers as they worry about the active side effects while racing and also failing potential drug tests.
PlantF1's Michelle Foster reported on William's Franco Colapinto and Red Bull's Sergio Perez, both claiming that they were uncomfortable with the smell and potential repercussions of the smoke.
"There was a smell of marijuana," Colapinto said, "If they dope the drivers now, I think we'll all test positive.
When we all test positive, there will be a mess."
Perez told reporters that everyone on the grid was talking about the smell and that he was sick of it.
"I'm a bit tired of it already - the amount is incredible. It's something all the drivers will definitely talk about."
