Hunger Games prequel book gets exciting update

The Hunger Games' second prequel book Sunrise on the Reaping has received an exciting update.

The book series' official Instagram page uploaded a short video revealing the novel's cover: a songbird and a snake -- representing the conflicting forces of good and evil -- joined at the bottom, showing how they're more connected than you think.

Behind that, there's a spiky looking symbol that could represent the titular rising sun, or perhaps a crown, or both.

The video also includes a quote from Haymitch Abernathy: "They will not use my tears for their entertainment."

Haymitch is the focal character of this second prequel, after The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes told the story of a young Coriolanus Snow.

The official synopsis for Suzanne Collins' latest book reads: "As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honour of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes.

"Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves.

"When Haymitch's name is called, he can feel all his dreams break. He's torn from his family and his love, shuttled to the Capitol with the three other District 12 tributes: a young friend who's nearly a sister to him, a compulsive oddsmaker, and the most stuck-up girl in town.

"As the Games begin, Haymitch understands he's been set up to fail. But there's something in him that wants to fight . . . and have that fight reverberate far beyond the deadly arena."

Pre-orders are open now ahead of its March 18, 2025 release at retailers like Waterstones and Amazon. A movie adaptation is on the way too.

In the UK, the four main Hunger Games films can be streamed by Netflix and Prime Video subscribers, while Prime Video subscribers can also stream A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
