A news reporter was reporting live from the Southern California fires on Wednesday when a home went up in flames right behind her.
Sara Welch, a reporter for KTLA in Southern California, was on scene for the growing mountain fire in Ventura County on Wednesday. The fire erupted in the Somis and Camarillo areas on Wednesday, before spreading across the highway and into other areas. The fire spread fast, due to strong Santa Ana winds, affecting thousands across the state.
Tragically, several homes have been impacted, with many being forced to evacuate.
"The flames are just vicious," Welch said during the 1 p.m. show on KTLA 5 News. "It is hot, and it is windy. There are sporadic fires all over the area."
As Welch was reporting on the fire, a home was demolished by the flames.
It was pretty heartbreaking to watch.
Firefighters have struggled to contain the fire due to the strong winds and heavy flames. The winds are so strong that first responders are able to fight the fire from the air, too.
"These winds are so fierce that they can't get any fixed-wing aircraft up there to drop any water," she said. "In many cases, sadly, some of these things just have to burn because there's no way to get water to them."
Firefighters are spread across the state, hoping to contain it.
Our thoughts are with everyone in the state during this scary time.
