Chicago-area billboards display profane anti-Israel messages on Palestinian flag

NORTHBROOK, Ill. (TNND) -- Two billboards in the greater Chicago area on Wednesday displayed anti-Israel messages, causing an uproar on social media.

The digital signs, which are alongside an expressway in Northbrook, read "Death to Israel" and "F**k Israel" with a Palestinian flag in the background.

Northbrook is in the district of Rep. Brad Schneider, D-Ill., who posted on social media Wednesday night that he has spoken with local police about the billboards. Rep. Schneider added that he urged Outfront Media, the owner of the signs, to immediately remove the messages and explain how they appeared.

"I am aware of the hateful, antisemitic billboard signs located on Edens Spur Tollroad in Northbrook, one that says "F*$% ISRAEL" and one that reads"DEATH TO ISRAEL," he wrote on X. "This disgusting, intimidating display has no place in the 10th District, or anywhere in America."

Outfront told ABC 7 Chicago it removed the signs, adding that the company was hacked.

The billboards are in a community with a large Jewish population, according to Rep. Schneider, who noted the messages appeared near a Jewish school and at the beginning of a holiday commemorating an event in the Torah.

In a statement toThe National News Desk (TNND), the Northbrook Village Board of Trustees called the messages antisemitic.

"The Northbrook Village Board unequivocally condemns anti-Semitism and all acts of hate speech," the statement reads in part. "We stand together with the Jewish community, family members, friends and neighbors. Northbrook is an inclusive community and welcomes all."

Displayed at the bottom of the billboard was "Paid for by MrBeast LLC," which references the company of a YouTube video creator who has 320 million subscribers. Rep. Schneider said the signs must have been shocking for drivers, according to Fox 32 Chicago.

"One of the ones that caught my attention is someone said they had their kids in the car, their little kids, but old enough to read," he reportedly said. "You know, these are big billboard signs, and how do you explain that to a young person?"

MrBeast LLC did not return a request for comment by TNND.
