If Netflix is truly interested in becoming the top destination for streaming sports, it'll need to improve its product, because this Friday's coverage of Jake Paul's fight against Mike Tyson left a lot to be desired.
Before Paul and Tyson even stepped into the ring at AT&T Stadium, Netflix's stream kept buffering. It was so spotty at certain points that people considered turning off this Friday's event.
Thankfully, Netflix's stream improved as the night went along. It wasn't perfect, but it was good enough to keep viewers satisfied for Paul and Tyson's entrances.
Of course, that didn't stop people from voicing their complaints throughout the night.
"Im in the classic torture chamber where I cant tell if my internet keeps going out or whether #netflix is just constantly buffering and unwatchable for everybody," Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports tweeted.
"Someone at Netflix is getting fired tomorrow," NFL insider Benjamin Allbright wrote on X. "What an embarrassment."
"If Netflix doesn't fix this buffering issue, this will go down as one of the biggest fails in all of tv/streaming history," one person said.
Another person commented, "How are y'all gonna have the biggest fight of the year on your platform & y'all stream can't go longer than 5 minutes without buffering... WTF Netflix."
"My Netflix won't stop buffering absolutely impossible to watch this," a popular social media user added.
This is Netflix's first real attempt at streaming professional boxing. If we had to guess, this won't be the last time either.
Hopefully for Netflix's sake, it'll be able to learn from this Friday's miscues. If so, the streaming platform will only get better.
