Comedy giant among huge line of celebrities coming to Worcestershire town

A COMEDY giant is among a huge line-up of celebrities coming to a Worcestershire town.

Comedian Greg Davis is one of many who will be visiting Droitwich later this year as part of the first-ever Rik Mayall Comedy Festival.

The festival, which will take place from May 31 to June 7, will pay tribute to the legendary comedian and actor from Droitwich, Rik Mayall.

The comedian, writer and actor most notable for his roles in The Young Ones, Drop Dead Fred, and Bottom before his death in 2014.

The star grew up in Droitwich and even spent time on the town's Norbury Theatre Stage.

The Comic Strip founder Peter Richardson will also headline the festival and stars like Haparak Khorsandi, Red Richardson, Paul Foot, Laura Smyth and Helen Lederer.

The legend Rik Mayall. (Image: PA) A spokesperson for Wychavon District Council said: "The one and only Greg Davies, renowned comedian and sitcom star, is taking centre stage at the Rik Mayall Comedy Festival in Droitwich this year.

"Get ready for a side-splitting lineup with legends like Peter Richardson, Shaparak Khorsandi, Red Richardson, Paul Foot, Laura Smyth, and Helen Lederer.

"Mark your calendars because tickets for the headline shows will be released on 9 March.

The community-run festival will also feature theatre, comedy for children and parents, panels and screenings.

Free activities suitable for families will take place around the town on weekends, and a pop-up museum will feature memorabilia, costumes, and photographs from Mayall's career.

A mural will also be unveiled later this month to honour Rik.
