Dragons 'close in' on Ben Hunt replacement

The Dragons are reportedly close to signing Ben Hunt's replacement for 2025.

Per multiple reports, Rabbitohs halfback Lachlan Ilias is nearing a move to the Red V.

This would see him team up in the halves with Kyle Flanagan, allowing the latter to remain at five-eighth.

Ilias endured a difficult 2024 season at South Sydney. The young gun was dropped as the club's first-choice halfback early in the campaign before suffering a season-ending leg injury in the NSW Cup.

With master coach Wayne Bennett taking over at the Bunnies, the 24-year-old could battle for a starting spot in Redfern, although newly-acquired No. 7 Lewis Dodd and veteran Cody Walker are set to cover the playmaking duties.

Ilias is now set to sign a two-year deal with the Dragons, which will see him through until the end of 2026, according to the Daily Telegraph.

He has also reportedly undergone a second medical with the team.

Experience Tigers player Adam Doueihi and rising Sharks star Daniel Atkinson were other names floated in St George Illawarra's halfback search.

In 53 first-grade appearances, Ilias has scored 10 tries and recorded 22 try assists.
