NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4050 laptop GPU will be in supply even after the release of its next-gen "RTX 5050" counterpart, for the budget segment.
Team Green has decided to switch things up regarding releasing its GeForce RTX 50 "Blackwell" consumer GPU series.
As reported on Weibo by 思考未来啊, NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4050 laptop GPU will be the only older-gen GPU in supply even after the release of the upcoming RTX 50 series counterpart. Team Green plans on leveraging the coexistence of the RTX 4050 & the RTX 5050, pitching the latter SKU with a higher price point despite minimal differences.
Take this with a grain of salt for now, but considering the details of the leak, it surely does look like an "NVIDIA" move. Out of all Ada Lovelace SKUs, the GeForce RTX 4050 laptop GPU will be the only RTX 4000 series SKU in supply, while all other variants will be shifted to the new naming scheme. The leak says that by this move, NVIDIA won't keep the price change from the GeForce RTX 4050 laptop GPU to the GeForce RTX 5050, the same as the previous generation, and they might try to add in "extra" revenue, depending upon how the lineup pans out.
This is certainly an interesting development, and it shows that the GeForce RTX 4050 laptop SKU is widely preferred by consumers, especially budget adopters looking to get their hands on something not to overkill. With the GeForce RTX 4050 and RTX 5050 being in the market together, consumers will have a wider option to choose from, and NVIDIA can potentially cash this in by posing the "newer gen" counterpart as a superior option, but not compromising on existing sales.
NVIDIA's RTX 50 "Blackwell" lineup has seen massive anticipation from the markets, and with the GPUs launching at CES 2025, we expect serious sales traction from these GPUs, making them the talk of the town.
