Plus how it measures up to the average dick size. You know, in case you were wondering!
Hello and welcome back to another episode of "How Big Is this Dick?" I'm your fearless host (and loyal Cosmo sex columnist), Kayla Kibbe, and if you've been following along, you know that we've already discussed 5-inchers and 6-inchers. Which brings us to -- you guessed it -- 7-inch penises. Just how big is a 7-inch dick, exactly? How does it measure up to the average penis size? Don't worry, the answers to all your burning questions will soon be revealed.
But first, my regular disclaimer that bullshit beauty standards that purport to tell anyone of any gender what any part of their body should "ideally" look like are just that: bullshit. Also, penis size is not indicative of attractiveness or "masculinity" or how good someone is in bed.
"Mainstream porn tends to showcase larger-than-average penises, which has a lot of folks thinking 7 inches is normal. Spoiler alert -- it's not," says sex and relationships coach Catherine Drysdale. "In reality, most people fall closer to the average range, and what really matters isn't size but how you use it -- cue creativity, connection, and communication."
But since we came here to talk size, let's talk size. Whether you have a 7-inch dick, are boning someone who does, or just love reading about penises (hey, we all have hobbies!), here's the lowdown on all things 7-inch schlong.
Short answer, yeah, it's pretty big.
According to a 2015 scientific review published in BJUI International that looked at the flaccid and erect penises of over 15,500 men, the average erect penis length is 5.16 inches. In the review, 68% of men measured between 4.5 and 5.8 inches while erect. This means that 7-inches is significantly larger than average.
"A 7-inch penis is rare enough to turn heads -- it's estimated that only about 2-5% of people fall into this size category," says Drysdale. So if you've got a bonafide 7-incher on your hands, you're definitely in the "above average" zone.
"Of course, men often lie about their size, adding an extra inch or two, which is why 7 inches may not seem that large," adds Cosmo's 'Navigating Non-Monogamy' columnist Zachary Zane, author of Boyslut: A Memoir and Manifesto. Not to mention, "porn has given many a distorted sense of how large a penis is, since penises in porn are often 7, 8, 9, and maybe even 10 inches," he adds.
But in real-world terms, 7-inches of dick is honestly...kind of a lot!
Again, a 7-inch penis is fairly long, and while porn/society/god knows what other internalized patriarchal nonsense has convinced us all that bigger = better when it comes to sex, this is simply not always the case. Not only is there literally sooooo much more that goes into being good in bed than size, but there is such a thing as too big. While yes, there are plenty of size queens/kings/royalty out there who can take all 7 inches like a damn pro, some people may find a 7-incher to be a bit of a challenge.
"Remember, the vaginal canal is typically around 4-5 inches when aroused," says Zane. "So if you're coming up with a true seven inches, it could potentially cause pain."
But have no fear! There are plenty of ways to ensure everyone involved is having the best possible 7-inch sexperience.
"With a larger penis, positions that let your partner control the depth and rhythm are key to keeping things comfortable and pleasurable," says Drysdale. Here are few sexpert recommended options.
And if 7-inches is still feeling like a bit much, Drysdale recommends trying the Oh Nut cock ring, which essentially acts as a depth bumper, "controlling how deep your partner can go while adding sensation for them and even helping them last longer."
So there you have it. Now go forth and enjoy however many inches of dick you have in your life.
