A school bus driver's sense of smell and quick thinking helped keep 10 elementary school students safe after the bus caught fire in Stanislaus County, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP said officers received the call of a school bus on fire on Shiloh Road north of Grayson Road around 4:37 p.m. Monday.
Officials said the driver of the bus smelled what they believed to be an electrical fire. The driver then found a safe place to pull over and got the 10 children off of the bus.
A photo shared by CHP shows the back portion of a Ceres Unified School District bus that was heavily burned and damaged.
The CHP said no injuries were reported in the fire, and all of the students made it home.
Officials said the bus driver's actions prevented what could have been a much worse outcome.
