MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Two former Memphis Police Officers who were indicted after being accused of causing a deadly wreck during a police chase last year are set to appear in court Tuesday morning.
According to court records, former officers Ontarian Malone and Marquavious Williams left the scene of the accident without rendering aid. The indictment also says the former officers used a police vehicle as a "battering ram" to force the pursued vehicle to stop.
The police pursuit started even with no evidence of the driver violating any traffic laws, records state.
The document does not make clear where the wreck happened. But on May 6 last year, WREG reported on a fiery, high-speed crash that killed a woman and injured four others on Park Avenue in Orange Mound. Police at the time said it may have been the result of a pursuit.
A grand jury indicted Malone and Williams on a long list of charges including leaving the scene of an accident and official misconduct.
Malone and Williams joined the police force in 2019 before resigning in January 2024. They have since found another job working with the Hernando Police Department.
After the indictment, the two relinquished their role with HPD. Before this exact incident, WREG learned both of the former officers were reportedly reprimanded for other pursuits.
