Lucasfilm continues to strike while the iron is hot with Star Wars and has commissioned a third season of Star Wars: Visions, announced at Disney's content showcase in Singapore, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter. The series will comprise nine new short stories from Japanese studios including:
David Production Kamikaze Douga + ANIMA Kinema Citrus Polygon Pictures Production I.G. Project Studio Q TRIGGER WIT Studio
After Star Wars: Visions took a tour around the world with its choice of animation companies in Volume 2, Volume 3 will return things to solely Japanese studios. Four of the nine studios listed are returning from previous seasons, providing some hope that there could be sequel stories in the Star Wars: Visions universe. Kamikaze Douga was responsible for Volume 1's "The Duel" which envisions a Feudal-Jedi Empire that faces off against a renegade Jedi sect of Sith. Kinema Citrus brought "The Village Bride" to life in Volume 1, which showed a battle between bandits in a small village, and Production I.G. created the popular "The Ninth Jedi" short which follows the creation of a new Jedi order in the animation style of Ghost in the Shell. The studio behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Studio Trigger, will also return to provide another Star Wars: Visions episode.

Star Wars: Visions has been quite successful for the Lucasfilm franchise with the series winning two Annie awards and one Primetime Emmy Award for Best Production Design in Animation. The episode that won these accolades was Volume 2's "Screecher's Reach" which was produced by Ireland-based company Cartoon Saloon. Marvel Comics has also expanded the world of Star Wars: Visions with a comic book one-shot following Kamikaze Douga's Ronin character from "The Duel."
Star Wars: Visions joins a successful run of animated series from the galaxy far, far away which includes the likes of Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars animated shows. Like these shows, however, the animations are oft overlooked in favor of the live-action series, which usually feature bigger names and stars. Nevertheless, Star Wars is making waves in the animation space, and Star Wars: Visions is one underrated series fans will want to keep an eye on come Season 3.
