The Alex Crawford Hoyt Period House will be decorated with more than 15 trees, countless lights and antique toys. The festive decor has become a passion project of the Hoyt's executive director, Kimberly Koller-Jones.

"My grandmother had a way of repurposing bits of this or that into beautiful things with little to no budget. I think of her every time I'm thrifting for new materials to work with or making something old look new," she said. "You'd never know that half our decorations were discarded by their former owners. The other half likely came from clearance."

This year's decor will incorporate the museum's collection of vintage hats to tie into The Global Language of Headwear: Cultural Identity, Rites of Passage and Spirituality exhibit on display in the galleries through Dec. 26. The exhibition features 89 hats and headdresses from around the world.
