Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been making a slew of public appearances over the last few months. The reason is thought to be a strategy their PR team put together in an effort to repair their image after a rough year in which Spotify canceled the duchess's podcast, a company executive publicly called them "f****** grifers," and the pair landed on the "Biggest Losers" of the year list.
There is quite a difference in where they're appearing though. The duke is flying all over the world to countries like South Africa to support his charities and to Canada to promote the Invictus Games, while Meghan has popped up to speak at a local bookstore and support the launch of a haircare line in Los Angeles.
Now, a royal commentator is comparing the former Suits star, who intended to be just like Princess Diana, to another woman she continues to prove time and time again that she's much more like.
Royal expert and To Di for Daily podcast host Kinsey Schofield spoke to Talk TV presenter Kevin O'Sullivan and opined that Meghan has "cheapened" Prince Harry's brand yet the reputation of the royal family remains relatively untarnished.
She also said that while Harry and his wife have both tried numerous times to be like Diana, Meghan comes out looking like another duchess more and more.
According to Schofield, "Meghan has cheapened the Harry brand. Maybe not the royal family brand, which I think is stronger than she is, but she certainly cheapened the Harry brand ... I know that they have probably looked through the Princess Diana playbook and tried to recreate Panorama with Oprah Winfrey, Diana Her True Story [with] Spare but the reality is they're pretty much falling more in line with Fergie [Sarah Ferguson], who was selling blenders at 3 O'clock in the morning on the Home Shopping Network here in the United States.
"Meghan hawking hair products is more like Fergie than anything Princess Diana would ever touch."
Where Fergie has one up on Meghan though is that the Duchess of York was actually welcomed back into the royal fold.
After years of slowly and quietly showing up at a few royal functions, Sarah fell back in line with the family and made her first appearance in 30 years during the annual Christmas walk in 2024.
Unlike Fergie, not too many people can envision the Duchess of Sussex joining that Christmas walk in Sandringham with the family ever again, but only time will tell.
