Hey TOC Nation, we are going to be pinning this article to the top of the home page for the next several months. We are going to use this to drop news of all offseason activity regarding the MSU football team roster. If we get a new commitment or if someone departs for the portal or any other sort of player (or coach) movement, it will be listed here.
In the days since the season ended, there has already been some activity. Here are the latest headlines:
The highest rated recruit in MSU's 2025 class, and hometown kid, has announced he is changing his college selection from MSU to Alabama. The East Lansing product is the 37th ranked running back in this class per 247sports and would have been the only 4-star player in this class had he come to MSU.
Demetrice Martin, a former MSU player in the 90s, has announced he is taking a role on the UCLA Bruins staff as the Secondary Coach and Defensive Passing Game Coordinator. While Martin did play for the Spartans, Los Angeles is his hometown and he has had a previous coaching stint at UCLA. He was only on our staff for one season.
The three star CB has decided to head back on the market with USC, UCLA and Washington leading the charge. Already a California kid, he could be following Coach Meat to UCLA.
Even after Martin's departure and Zamorano's decommit, three-star DB Evan Young decided to "Go Green". He's impressed with the facilities and Coaches Smith, Adams and Rossi. He mentioned that he is aware it was their first year and it had some bumps but feels the program is set up to be great.
Talley was primarily a third down rush end who ended the season with 1.5 sacks. Talley is entering the portal for the second time as he came to MSU via Penn State.
There is a lot of talk, some good and some bad about the status of MSU football. Jack Velling mentioned after the Rutgers game that he would tell people in the transfer portal that MSU has the best coaching staff, a great culture and East Lansing is a great spot. Those sound like words of a player that may be sticking around. Velling didn't have the season anyone was expecting, including him. He sounds like he expects things to turn around and wants another go at MSU football. If he does decide to stay, it may be likely we see a TE on the roster hit the portal.
Another player likely to hit the portal is Antonio Gates Jr. There's high hope for this NFL great's son, but he just never seems to see the field. He's flirted with the portal last season and this season could see his departure.
The biggest pieces we are all waiting on are Nick Marsh, Aiden Chiles and Charles Brantley. Brantley may be exiting and following Coach Meat. With Marsh, I think in today's NIL climate we, as Spartans, just assume the worst and that he is going to depart. Nobody wants that to happen so someone make a sacrifice to the Gods for this one. Chiles is my next possible question. He was obviously heated, immature and frustrated in the final press conference but did he really say anything that wasn't true? Sure he threw some teammates and coaches under the bus, but maybe they needed to be. I don't necessarily think Chiles is leaving, but I could see him entertain the idea.
We'll keep you updated throughout the day on anyone the Spartans may be bringing in.
