Semi-truck rollover crash traps, injures driver on I-5 in Cowlitz County

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A crash involving a semi-truck and a pickup caused the semi-truck to roll over on its side, trapping the driver inside late Friday night.

Just before 11:30 p.m., Cowlitz County emergency crews and Washington State troopers responded to the I-5 Southbound off-ramp at Exit 42 about a crash in which a semi-truck rolled over on its side, pinning the driver.

Officials said firefighters used the jaws of life as well as saws to remove entangled metal before extricating the driver from the overturned truck.

It took emergency crews over two hours to fully extricate the 57-year-old driver, who had a severe injury to his left leg, authorities said.

He was then taken to the hospital by ambulance, but was later transferred to a trauma center for further treatment.

The other driver was also taken to the hospital for chest pain.

No further information has been released at this time.
